Part 2: Too Close and Too Far Away: Maintaining Relationships During Quarantine
The COVID-19 Pandemic has emphasized the importance of our personal relationships. During this time, we may be experiencing a sense of isolation, from those we want to be near, or tension with those people we see every day. Perhaps we are experiencing both. How do we emotionally connect with people, when we can’t spend time with them? How do we lovingly interact with people when we are quarantined with them, and perhaps they are driving us bonkers!

Spiritual Tools for Uncertain Times
“There is a dimension of delicate pain in this, but even in our aloneness we are together”
– Gerald May
If there is anything endemic in this pandemic it’s fear and anxiety. It has created what 4th-century monks referred to as “acedia” – a sense of restlessness, spiritual unease and an urge to escape the confines of the current condition. For the monks, it was the confines of monastic life, for us it is the new way of life imposed by COVID-19.
In response, I want to share with you Spiritual Tools for Uncertain Times, a video series to be broadcast on Facebook Live each Wednesday evening. Each episode will provide a reflection, specific strategies, and a brief meditation to help you not only learn, but experience the tools. Each will have a different focus such as the body, the spirit, and relationships. They will be about 10-15 minutes – just enough to give you some substance, but not too much to overwhelm you.
